The Latin American and Latina/o Studies (LALS) major consists of 36 hours of coursework, as follows:

Students with native fluency in Spanish beyond the SPAN 331/SPAN 332 level will be exempt from taking these two courses (SPAN 331 and SPAN 332). A formal recommendation from LALS/SPAN faculty is required. Students who are exempted from taking SPAN 331 and SPAN 332 will take eight additional hours from courses in LALS electives. All students must take a minimum of 12 hours of courses with the SPAN prefix beyond SPAN 201. | ||

| Study-Abroad Requirement | ||
LALS majors are required to complete an approved study abroad program in Latin America. Options include HNGR, Wheaton in México, or an approved semester academic term abroad. Participation in non-Wheaton programs and other exemptions must be approved by LALS faculty. | ||
