The Latin American and Latina/o Studies (LALS) major consists of 36 hours of coursework, as follows:

Advanced Grammar and Composition
Students with native fluency in Spanish beyond the SPAN 331/SPAN 332 level will be exempt from taking these two courses (SPAN 331 and SPAN 332). A formal recommendation from LALS/SPAN faculty is required. Students who are exempted from taking SPAN 331 and SPAN 332 will take eight additional hours from courses in LALS electives. All students must take a minimum of 12 hours of courses with the SPAN prefix beyond SPAN 201.
Senior Seminar in Latin American and Latina/o Studies
Study-Abroad Requirement
LALS majors are required to complete an approved study abroad program in Latin America. Options include HNGR, Wheaton in México, or an approved semester academic term abroad. Participation in non-Wheaton programs and other exemptions must be approved by LALS faculty.
