The Aequitas Fellowship Program in Urban Leadership (the Aequitas Program) is a four-year, cohort-based, experiential program that educates Wheaton College students to promote just, sustainable, and flourishing urban communities through academic study, experiential learning, immersion programs, and Christian service.

In the first year, students take a First Year Seminar course, CORE 101 What is a Thriving City?, followed by URBN 114 Social Life of Cities. In addition to these courses, students have opportunities to attend lectures organized by the Center for Urban Engagement and to participate in round table discussions with invited lecturers. In the summer following their first year, students partner with Global Urban Perspectives to complete an international experience. Throughout the second year, students participate in AQTS 211/AQTS 212, a reading group hosted by the Aequitas Urban Leadership theme coordinator, and they complete their required economics course sequence. During the third year, students participate in Wheaton in Chicago, a semester-long residential program, in which they will take AQTS 311 Community-Based Research and complete a research project in cooperation with a community organization. The fourth year allows students to direct their studies in pursuit of interests relevant to their particular major or vocation, in the form of projects, which may include but are not limited to honors theses, peer-reviewed articles, community art projects, HNGR internships, and competitive fellowship applications. The final semester of the Aequitas Urban Leadership program is capped by the presentation of individual and cohort research projects.
