Requirements for a History major are 36 hours in History. At least 16 hours must be in courses at the 300-400 level:

Students are encouraged to explore their various interests by taking classes in the wide range of seminars offered in the department. Students may also pursue independent studies, study abroad, and internship experiences for elective credit in the department.

Select classes, such as HIST 391, Global Middle Ages, can be used to fulfill either the Global Studies or the European requirement. Students must choose which requirement they want the class to fulfill. GEOG 211 fulfills the Global Studies requirement.

Approved courses in the History of Christianity may simultaneously satisfy both the History of Christianity requirement and a geographical field requirement.

Optional elective. Per college-wide policy, students may only take one AIS course total while at Wheaton.

Upon approval, history-related courses from other departments may be counted towards the major. No more than one 102 or one 103 may count for the major.
