This major provides students with a core curriculum (26 credits) and electives (10 credits) in the applied human health sciences.
- Core Courses: Human Anatomy, Integrative Human Physiology, Biostatistics, Concepts in Epidemiology, Concepts in Nutrition, and Integrative Seminar; Internship (see further details below)
- Elective courses: Advanced Human Anatomy, Clinical Kinesiology, Behavioral Medicine, Applied Physiology, and Advanced Anatomy II
- Research and discovery is emphasized in the upper-division courses and in independent research projects in which experimentally based research projects and case studies are accomplished.
- An internship in the area of the student’s interest is required. Areas include: physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiovascular rehabilitation, various clinical experiences, sports medicine, nutrition, basic research in physiology at other selected universities, and fitness training.
The curriculum is established to prepare students for:
- Professional schools in medicine and allied health fields
- Graduate studies in areas of the health sciences and basic research
- Careers in areas of fitness and wellness
Students who complete an Applied Health Science major are granted a Bachelor of Science degree unless they request a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Along with specific requirements for any major, all students in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs must meet all general education and graduation requirements under a single catalog.
